Cilgwyn Mawr

Cilgwyn Mawr was a derelict stone cottage that could be found in the dramatic rolling hills of North Wales.

Arrol Architects were commissioned to complete works to the house and surrounding landscape in two phases. The first phase repaired and restored the existing cottage, upgrading it to a property that was comfortable to modern standards of living.

The second phase saw an ambitious extension of the house, adding an entire wing to the side as well as extending the property to the rear. Arrol Architects also undertook an extensive redesign of the garden, cutting terraces into the steeply inclined land so that it could be properly enjoyed as a garden. Terraces were defined by the use of local stone that tied in with the stone of the house. A swimming pool was integrated into the top terrace, overlooking an impressive view.
